House Mouse

Mus musculus

Risk

High

Peak season · Oct–Mar

Small, quick and mostly nocturnal. Moves indoors as the nights get cold.

Signs

  • Droppings the size of a rice grain along skirting boards and in cupboards
  • Scratching in walls or ceilings at night
  • Gnawed food packets and shredded paper or insulation
  • A musky smell in enclosed spaces

Prevention

  • Seal gaps wider than 6 mm around pipes, vents and doors
  • Keep food, including pet food, in sealed containers
  • Fit brush strips to the bottom of garage doors
  • Clear clutter from lofts and under-stair cupboards

How we treat it

  • We find and seal the entry points first
  • Tamper-resistant traps go along the runs the droppings show
  • Two follow-up visits to check traps and confirm the activity has stopped

Recommended treatment

We find how mice and rats get in, seal it, and set a monitored trap line.
