Subterranean Termite

Reticulitermes flavipes

Risk

High

Peak season · Mar–Jun swarms

Lives in the soil and eats timber from the inside out.

Signs

  • Mud tubes on foundation walls or in the subfloor
  • Wood that sounds hollow when tapped
  • Piles of discarded wings near windows in spring
  • Doors and windows that suddenly stick

Prevention

  • Keep timber, firewood and mulch away from the house
  • Fix leaks and keep the subfloor dry
  • Leave a clear gap between soil and timber
  • Book an inspection every one to two years

How we treat it

  • A written inspection report with photos
  • In-ground bait stations or a targeted soil barrier
  • Monitoring visits until the colony is gone

Recommended treatment

A written inspection report, then targeted baiting or barrier treatment.
